VOLUNTEER

Volunteering for the Open House Festival is an exciting opportunity as confirmed by previous volunteers. These people come from a wide range of professions and backgrounds.

Through our volunteer scheme, we aim to develop skill and expertise of our participants and provide opportunities for interactions with our broad audience, encourage a wider appreciation for the outstanding architecture in Lagos.

By joining our Volunteer Programme, you can make a difference by injecting new skills and experience into our organisation, and by helping us make our initiatives and events happen. We have a team of experienced volunteers and interns who help to train volunteers for their respective duties.

The Open House Lagos annual event takes place in April. Volunteers will be recruited as stewards and guides at participating buildings.

Volunteering gets you…

What is the time commitment to volunteer?

Volunteers will:

  • Attend 2 1/2 day training session
  • Volunteer over the two day Open House Lagos weekend

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers work at one of our participating sites, and may help out with any of the following:

  • Greeting visitors
  • Assisting with crowd control and directing visitors to certain areas
  • Guide visitors through their allocated building
  • Answering general questions about the site and about OHL Weekend
  • Managing sign-ups for OHNY’s mailing list and counting visitors
  • All OHL volunteers must abide by our Volunteer Code of Conduct

Do I get to pick my site?

Due to the high volume of sites and volunteers volunteer assignments are based on availability, interest, and accessibility

Can I volunteer with a friend?

Absolutely! On the registration form, you can indicate the name of a friend with whom you would like to volunteer, and we will do our best to place you together.

If I am a past volunteer, do I need to attend an orientation session?

Yes, unless you have volunteered for OHL for three or more years, you are only required to pick up your assignment materials and t-shirt at the beginning of the orientation and may leave before the presentation.
