House G9

Architect: ARG Studio

Year Completed: 2011

The combination of a relatively small 500sqm plot fronting two opposite streets and the home being one of a pair of non-identical semi-detached units set the tone for this design.

Designed around a courtyard, stairs and a walkway/bridge animate the large volume space of the ground floor. Glazing separates kitchen from the open living/dining main space.

The courtyard elevation is finished for the most part with stone work, with windows framed by rustic concrete hoods. This is in contrast to the sleek white main finishes. Wood is used extensively on the façades, creating a warm juxtaposition of feelings.

The rear of the home is largely glazed, opening out onto the garden and swimming pool. Interior/exterior barriers are dematerialised.
